Expressing interest in a new job and working your way through the hiring process can be exciting and challenging. Just as UCI utilizes the process to help engage candidates in an effort to select the right person for the job, we recognize that candidates are also in search of information to help make a decision that is right for them. The resources below are designed to help candidates with their career search.
SEARCH ALL JOBSWORK AT UCI
Is UCI right for you? UCI is an organization of 26,000 employees. Being an employee in a large organization has many benefits. The variety of people that you have an opportunity to work with and learn from are just a few. Departments vary in size, along with where they are located across numerous campus buildings or the hospital and ambulatory clinics throughout Orange County. You should think about what’s important to you regarding company size, department size, the way in which you collaborate with team members, the tools and resources afforded to you to do your job, and how accomplishments are acknowledged.
IDENTIFYING THE JOB THAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU
Aligning your career interests with job qualifications will help lead to a successful career search. The UCI career site typically features more than 500 jobs. We recommend that you utilize the search feature to narrow down the list. You can search by pre-identified job categories or simply use words that may align with the type of job you are interested in finding. Once you identify a job or list of jobs, it’s helpful to read the entirety of the job posting prior to applying.
RESUME OR PROFILE
To express interest in a position, you may submit a resume or manually complete your profile in our application system. The submission should include details about your educational accomplishments, work experience, certifications, and occupational licenses. INTERVIEWING
The interview is yet another critical step in the hiring process. It is your opportunity to tell a manager, and possibly an interview committee, more about your experiences and interests. Interviews may be scheduled virtually by phone or video, or in person. The interview team will work from a prepared list of questions that are created directly from the job posting – both the role summary and qualifications. Interviews are best managed by first ensuring that you read and review the job posting before the interview. This will help you anticipate the information that you should focus on sharing. Be honest, concise, and thoughtful when giving a response. And when it’s your opportunity to ask questions, be prepared to focus on the topics that are most important to your career decision. The hiring manager or HR team will let you know when you should expect to be notified about the final decision. Provided below are links to several interview preparation resources.

EMPLOYMENT OFFER
UCI offers a competitive total compensation package. Total compensation includes the hourly rate or annual salary, access to a variety of health benefits plans, retirement plans, paid time off for holidays, vacation time, and sick time, and discounts to retail, marketplaces, and local attractions. All of these factors have value, and should be taken into consideration when considering employment with UCI. Also, and in compliance with California’s pay transparency law, all job postings include the salary range. Expect that the recruiter, HR team member, or manager will discuss total compensation with you during your initial contact.
ACCEPTING EMPLOYMENT WITH UCI
The total time period from when you first apply to receiving an offer may span several weeks. And if you are the selected candidate, the final stages of the process are equally important. Anticipate a conversation with the recruiter, HR contact, or manager, confirming that you are receiving an offer of employment. The conversation will also include details about the job title, salary amount, potential start date, and conditions of employment. Conditions of employment include all of the criteria that must be verified prior to confirming your start date. This includes a criminal background check, employment verification, and professional references check. Job specific criteria such as licenses or other factors may also be required. For candidates being considered for jobs in healthcare, a pre-employment physical is also required. Once all conditions are met, your first date of employment will be set. You will also be invited to attend New Employee Orientation (NEO).
